How to Add Video to
Your iHealth Practice Web Site

Videos are becoming common tools to introduce a physician's practice to prospective patients, explain procedures to existing patients and to introduce practice staff.

When coupled with a video hosting service like YouTube, Medem's physician website services can provide this needed service video. Essentially, all you need to do is:
  • Create your video
  • Upload it to YouTube
  • Create a custom viewer
  • Paste a link in the appropriate section of your site pages
Detailed instructions follow.

Requirements:
  1. Your edited video file, saved to any folder on your computer, using one of the following file formats: .mpg, .mov, .avi or .wmv.
  2. A user account on YouTube. You can create this by going to http://youtube.com/signup and following YouTube's instructions.
    1. Using this YouTube account, you can maintain as many videos as you want and control options for how they are viewed.
    2. This is also where you can see how many times your video has been viewed.
  3. A practice or physician site hosted by Medem.
  4. A paid iHealth subscription.
Steps to embed video into a physician site using YouTube video hosting:
  1. Create a YouTube Account
  2. Log into your YouTube account.
  3. Go to My Account (in the top navigation)
    1. This the main area from which you can access/edit videos and custom players, the two features you'll use to put video onto your practice site.
    2. My Videos is also where you can see how many times your video has been viewed.

  4. Click on the "Upload New Video" button link on the account page to start the upload process.

    1. Enter the title you want posted with your video. This title will show on the YouTube site, but not on your Practice Site.
    2. Enter a description. This will show on YouTube, but not on your Practice Site.
    3. Enter a tag (key word), used by YouTube for searching. Your specialty or practice name is a good candidate.
    4. The "Broadcast Options" is correctly defaulted to Public.
    5. You do not need to set anything for "Data and Map Options" so you may bypass them.
    6. Sharing Options: make sure that Embedding is set to "Yes external sites may embed and play this video." so you can add your video in your Practice Site. The video must also be "public" for your patients to view it from your site. Other options can be set as you wish.

    5. Optional: Inside the HTML string, very carefully replace the sizing values: change 425 to 340 and 366 to 280 in both locations within the string to size the video more appropriately to the page.

For example, your HTML string will look like this. The values to replace are highlighted in red text below.

      <object width='425' height='366'><param name='movie' value='http://www.youtube.com/cp/vjVQa1PpcFMS8 _rnpAum2cZ5O3qB4Jj_KJ1hngQUlEY='></param><param name='wmode' value='transparent'></params ><embed src='http://www.youtube.com/cp/vjVQa1PpcFMS8 _rnpAum2cZ5O3qB4Jj _KJ1hngQUlEY=' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='transparent' width='425' height='366'></embed></object>

    6. Click the Save and Publish button.
    7. You may click "Preview Site" to see your site as patients will see it.
    8. When you have made all the changes you want to make, log out of Practice View.
