Senior Systems Administrator

We are currently looking for an intelligent, independent, talented, and experienced Systems Administrator to support mixed production environment. He or she must be able to maintain high availability benchmarks of the production system with minimum external support or supervision. Medem and its collocation center are based in downtown San Francisco.

Our offices are located in downtown San Francisco (100 Pine Street) in 5 minute walking distance from BART. Local candidates are strongly preferred.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Support of the entire production system including Servers, Firewalls, Routers, and other networking components.
- Design and deployment of significant extensions to the existing data center and potentially brand new data center(s).
- Development of SOP documents for full scope of Networking & Systems Engineering tasks, processes and procedures.
- Implement and support company security policies and security audits.
- 5+ years experience in IS with preference towards mixed (Windows, Cisco, Linux) environments.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience in high availability networks with the following components:
- Windows 2000/2003, Linux, Cisco IOS
- Cisco 7206vxr, Pix 515, Cisco Load Balancer, Catalyst 3548, Cisco VPN 3005
- IOS Firewall Feature set, PIX OS, Syslog, Application Firewalls
- Monitoring: Nagios, Dell Open Manage
- DNS and BIND 9.2.x, Veritas Backup Exec, Symantec Ghost
- Experience in support and system administration for productions servers in 24x7x365 environment
- Hands-on experience in design, deployment and support of high availability data centers. ASP experience for B2C Internet applications is a great plus.
- Strong understanding of IS methodology, skills in development and proven track record of establishing and documenting IS Processes and Procedures.
- Knowledge of the system administration for servers running the following elements is a great plus:
- VMware
- BEA Weblogic, Java
- IIS, MS SQL Server, Visio
- Exchange 2003, Active Directory
- Greatly Desired: Network (CCNA, CCIE)
- A Great Plus: Security (SANS/GIAC, CISM, CISSP)
- A Plus: MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer)
- Person with strong passion for Technology and track record of continuing education.
- Detail oriented, methodical, meticulous, and process-oriented person who is prepared to instill the processes in a diverse fast changing and not process-oriented environment.
- Ambitious self-starter with get-it-done attitude who strives for results and performs well under pressure.
- Small company / start up mentality with appreciation for the benefits of structure.
- Good communicator and collaborator with strong verbal and written skills.
